nonrenewable energy sources because they take millions of years to form. Petroleum, natural gas and coal are fossil fuels.

Petroleum is the leading source of energy in the U.S. followed by natural gas and coal. In 2008 the U.S. used about 20.7 million barrels of oil per day, that's more than 840 million gallons every day!

asphalt for paving roads
**to make plastics for products such as toys, cell phones, water bottles and tons more **to make medicines, ink, fertilizers, pesticides, paints, varnishes, and electricity.
Spills can be caused by:
*people making mistakes or being careless.
*equipment breaking down.
*natural disasters such as hurricanes.
*deliberate acts by terrorists, countries at war, vandals, or illegal dumpers.
